June 2015 - My First Fix!

So, the day i've been anxiously awaiting!!! My first Stitch Fix came in the mail today! I was really excited when it came a day early, so I just couldn't wait to take pictures and get this started - so pardon the messy hair and no makeup!

So, first impressions as I opened my box.
- I was hoping for a lot more color. Pretty much everything I pinned was really bold and colorful, so I was a little disappointed.
- I really liked the styling card. I'm really not the greatest at putting outfits together (hence this subscription), so it was really helpful so I could see what I might have in my closet already that would work with the items.
- I was kind of disappointed I didn't get a dress in this fix, but maybe I didn't have it high enough in my priorities on my profile.
- The type of clothing sent (mostly casual, but nicer) was exactly what i'm looking for!

On to the individual pieces!

The first thing I pulled out of the box was this really pretty Sweet Rain Simona Henley Blouse for $44.00.
Initial thoughts - I'm not 100% sure if the print is for me and I feel like lighter shirts kind of wash me out since i'm pretty pale.

The second piece I pulled out was this Loveappella Kellyton Mesh Shoulder Top for $48.00
Initial thoughts - why on earth did my stylist send me a black shirt!?! I have zero black items pinned. Remember, I like COLOR! But, the fabric is REALLY soft, so it might be OK.

Third piece was this Loveappella Crawford Knit Top for $48.00.

Initial thoughts - I like the color, and like the other Loveappella shirt, it's REALLY soft - but still kind of plain.

The fourth piece was a pair of DL1961 Senuri Straight Leg Jeans for a shell shocking $168.00!
Initial thoughts - 1) HOLY $#@*. I don't ever spend that much on jeans. 2) They say high rise....um, no. 3) They are straight leg......not sure about that....

The fifth and final piece in my fix was this Bancroft Trisha Clover Charm Layering Necklace for $32.00.
Initial thoughts - again, pretty plain for me. I don't accessorize much, so if I do, it kind of has to be something pretty special.

Putting it all together

The first outfit I tried on was the Sweet Rain Simona Henley Blouse and the DL1961 Senuri Straight Leg Jeans and the Bancroft Trisha Clover Charm Layering Necklace.

Thoughts - The top, as I thought it would, kind of washes me out. Not only that, it's a little bit of an odd cut and looks pretty boxy. Plus, the material is just too sheer and i'd have to wear a layering tank and that just gets hot in the summer. The jeans were a surprisingly good fit. Out of the box, I didn't think they would fit, but they were surprisingly stretchy, fit well, and felt really nice on. Still not sure I have the right body type for straight leg jeans. As for the necklace, I feel like it's plain enough that it just gets lost with this shirt.

The second outfit I tried on was the Loveappella Kellyton Mesh Shoulder Top and the same jeans and necklace.

Thoughts - I was really surprised how much I liked this shirt ON considering it was probably my least favorite out of the box. As I said, the material is REALLY soft and the mesh top kind of gives it some interest. The fit is really nice and I feel like it is figure flattering. The necklace worked a lot better with this shirt since there wasn't as much going on.

The third outfit I tried on was the Loveappella Crawford Knit Top with the same jeans and necklace.

Thoughts - Again, the material on this top was soooooo soft! It really feels higher end and possibly worth the higher price tag. I really like the color and the fit is flattering. I wasn't sure about the slightly longer than short sleeve sleeves, but I think it gives an other wise kind of boring top some interest.

The verdict

Sweet Rain Simona Henley Blouse - for sure going back. It just wasn't for me for many reasons.

DL1961 Senuri Straight Leg Jean - pretty sure these are going back. I really did like how they fit and the feel of them, but not being 100% about the straight leg (even though they were actually long enough for me!!!), I just don't think I can justify $168.00 - but the jury is out.

Loveappella Crawford Knit Top - I'm keeping this one! I really like the turquoise color and I think my orange beaded necklace will really pop on it!

Loveappella Kellyton Mesh Shoulder Top - leaning towards keeping this one. I know it's basic black, but I feel like it could be dressed up or down and accessorizing can be fun. Plus, what musician doesn't need more basic black?

Bancroft Trisha Clover Charm Layering Necklace - Sending this one back. There just wasn't enough special about it for me to keep it.

Final thoughts

I'm REALLY glad I decided to do this! While I was a little underwhelmed by my first box, I realize that it's going to take a few orders for my stylist to really "get" me and my style. The cool thing is that when you send things back, you can give feedback and it just gives your stylist a better idea of what you're looking for, so i'm hopeful that my next box might be a better fit. Another great thing is that I have 3 days to decide, so I can try some other jeans and accessories with them and think it over before I decide for sure. One of the best things about the process is that I send whatever i'm NOT keeping back to them in a pre-paid USPS package that they send with the fix, so I can pop it in my mailbox and it's zero hassle.

I am SO very excited! I just got an email that my first Stitch Fix subscription has shipped! In preparation, i'm starting this blog so I can post about my Fixes as they come each month.

So, what is Stitch Fix? I was curious, too. A friend of mine had posted on Facebook that she signed up for it. Ever the curious, I decided to see what it was all about because I REALLY need some style help. I tend to go with the same old bland and boring, but I LOVE color and cute things...I guess I just don't know how to be fashionable without looking like i'm trying too hard.

Stitch Fix is a personal styling service for women. With Stitch Fix, you provide your style, size, and budget preferences, and they will send you a package of stylish goodies to try on at home. There is a $20 styling fee that is applied to your order should you decide to keep any/all of the pieces.  If you don’t keep anything, you don’t receive a refund of the fee. And if you keep all of the pieces, you get a 25% discount on everything!  Also, I should mention that you are only charged once you “check out” at Stitch Fix.  You have a few days to try everything on and the box comes with a bag and a prepaid USPS return label so you can easily ship back the pieces you aren’t interested in.

Another feature that i'm really excited about is the option to link your Pinterest or any other style boards to your profile. I like this option a lot because it gives me the opportunity to let my personal stylist know what I like. Because I customized my style profile pretty well, i'm really hopeful to get some awesome pieces in my first box! And the cool thing is, even when you send something back, it helps your stylist to have a better idea what to send in your next box!

Now i've told myself that i'm only allowed to keep things that I really LOVE...otherwise, it could get kind of expensive, but i'm SO ready for the style infusion!

Stitch Fix ETA Thursday, July 25 - be on the lookout for the review blog!
